Get down and dirty Kids need to get down and dirty, a new eczema study advises: published in the August 2013 Archives of Disease in Childhood, the Bristol University study looked at the hygiene of almost 11,000 children. It found that the children with the more severe forms of eczema were more likely to come from the cleanest environment. While the authors highlight that the hygiene hypothesis is not the whole answer, as genes play an important role, over-cleaning may increase the potential for eczema developing, it found. The study and the fact that spring is prime time for eczema flare-ups will be highlighted during Eczema Awareness Week (2-8 Sept). More information: eczema.org.au
