Get rid of worry Blessed is the one... whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither --- whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3. Lynn Kardis planted pink flowers in her garden in Michigan. They brought joy to her heart as they filled the entire space she had planned. But eventually weeds began to appear, and Lynn was too busy to nip it in the bud! By the end of summer her beautiful pink flowers were overcome and she was left with only weeds. If only she had maintained them when there were just a few! Lynn has noticed this phenomenon occurs in her spiritual life as well. When she ignores the worries as they invade her mind, they began choking spiritual growth and the beautiful fragrance of Christ disappears. Like the flowers, she cannot mature. Luke 8 is the parable of the sower. Jesus uses seeds to describe our hearts receiving the Good News. Does it fall upon good soil in your heart? Or is it trampled on by those around you? Does it become choked with weeds of doubt? Or fall into rocky areas of bitterness? You must prepare your heart in order to receive and grow abundant fruit. Just like with weeds, the secret lies on acting upon each one as soon as it appears. Maintaining the soil of our heart with scripture is the best tool, since its truth repeats throughout Old and New Testaments: let go of worry and cast our concerns over to God. What is the difference between happiness and worry? Between sadness or peace? It is your choice, what you choose to accept. The ONLY thing we have control over is what we choose to see, our focus, and how we respond. Gods word can overcome worry. Faith can produce a good crop. Dear Father, thank you for providing me with a way to cope, an outlet for my worries and concerns. Help us to apply your will daily, so our fruit may be abundant and our hearts free from burden. Amen. Prayer focus: gardeners and florists.
