Getting The Kids To Help Make Their Own Lunches We love - TopicsExpress

Getting The Kids To Help Make Their Own Lunches We love rummaging through the kitchen drawers to find things we can be a bit creative with for lunches. I find the kids are more engaged in the contents of their lunch boxes (and hopefully in eating them to) if they help me to prepare them. Because they are learning new kitchen skills, we make sure we pad in some extra preparation time but its so worth it as its really fun too. Here we used some pre-cooked sausages (preservative-free LAuthentique brand), scooped out the centre to form a boat (mum ate the scooped out bits, dont like seeing things go to waste!) and stuffed it with mashed pumpkin, leftover from last nights dinner. Then Max had the idea to make them into Stegosaurus tails with pumpkin seeds sticking out of the mashed pumpkin. Brilliant! For Chloes tail we used raisins instead of seeds because she goes to a nut-free / seed-free kindy. We then found some confectionery sticks which we used for mini-kebabs, no sharp ends! and then the kids had fun cutting stars out of cucumber slices. Have a look on Pinterest, heaps of ideas to get the creative ideas rolling! #realfood #lunch #lunchboxes
