Getting my rant on: The situation on the Quay, in front of The Granary, where the EuroLines Bus takes passengers en route to Cardiff and London, has long been a bugbear of mine. Moreorless opposite where this bus is surely illegally parking - just try leaving you car there with the hazard flashers on for 10/15 minutes and imagine what would happen - is the Bus Eireann Bus Station. Thats right. A Bus Station! To the best of my knowledge, theres a long-standing union row which prevents the EuroLines bus from parking safely in the bus station, and it clearly remains unresolved. I also understand that this same bus can use Cork Bus Station as a parking bay and there is no issue whatsoever there - so why oh why oh why is it different in Waterford? Compounding the issue is the fact that the EuroLines bus is parked barely 20 yards from a set of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing which must rank as one of the most dangerous in Munster. It is nothing short of miraculous that no-one has been hurt or seriously injured there. So I ask: Why is this being tolerated? What political intervention - if any - has there been to end this ludicrous parking situation? What exactly is the problem between the unions affected by this and will it take a death, injury or serious accident before those who can make a change here do anything about it? Rant over.
