Getting rid of fleas in this terrible flea year! Thereve been a bunch of posts on BNNK about flea problems, so I thought Id post our experience with what worked here. Talking with vets and groomers, it sounds like none of the topical pet treatments you can get in pet stores (e.g. Frontline, Advantage) works in this area anymore. We went to our vet and gave Comfortis tablets to our dogs (once a month), a prescription topical treatment to our cat (Revolution, apply between shouldblades once a month), and then sprayed Knockout (active ingredient: pyriproxyfen; lasts for 120 days) on all pet beds, carpets, and the couch cushions. We also restricted our dogs to living room, kitchen, and entryway until the fleas were somewhat under control. Our neighbor, who had a much worse infestation than we did, put borax in all her carpeted areas, but that didnt work. She tried flea bombs, but those didnt work. She then sprayed all her throw rugs with either Knockout or a pyrethrin spray and put a flea product made with boric acid rather than borax on all her carpeted areas. She also ran all her bedding through a really hot dryer. Seems like this has done the trick. Its a major hassle, thats for sure!
