Ghana U20 striker Ebenezer Assifuah feels extremely proud to have clinched the Golden Boot award at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup. The 20-year-old scored his sixth goal of the tournament to help Ghana win bronze in Saturday’s third-place playoff match against Iraq. That goal saw the Liberty Professionals player edge ahead in the tournament’s top scorer’s contest with Portugal’s Bruma and Jesse of Spain tied on five goals apiece to ultimately clinch to prestigious award. The powerful striker despite Ghana’s failure to win the ultimate in the competition staged in Turkey is proud at his significant achievement especially the intense competitin he faced to land the gong. “I’m very happy that I scored my sixth goal in the match for third place against Iraq today,” he said. “It was far from easy to get that many goals over the course of the tournament and I’m very proud of what I achieved. “The tournament itself was fantastic and was a very interesting experience, but there’s no doubt it was a real test for me and the team. “If you look back at our games and performances you can see what a challenge it was. “That makes me all the prouder to have scored enough goals to win the Golden Boot and to have finished in third place with the team. It’s simply unbelievable.” Assifuah becomes the second Ghanaian player within a space of four years to clinch the Golden boot award. Dominic Adiyiah was the first to land the gong after scoring eight goals in in the 2009 edition to help the Black Satellites win the World Cup in Egypt.
