Ghost Festival! During the last month I have seen in Singapore hundreds of people organizedly burning stuff! This is a traditional Buddhist and Taoist festival held in Asian countries. These pictures were taken in a store which sells stuff to be burned and in this way sent to loved ones. People buy and burn bicycles, shirts, cigarettes,coffee,chickens, etc... A part of them made of paper like cars and shirts but many others real things, food, drinks,etc. This is very far from my beliefs, in Judaism we dont cremate as they do, but I am fascinated by the connection, by the meaningful place they give to keep in touch with their loved ones who are no more physically in this world . In the Jewish world things are more abstract....Elul month has started and now is a very good timing to reflect and to ask yourself - how do you keep in touch?
