Area: Thailand, Province of Phang Nga, Takhua Pa district, More than ten shops have been severely damaged by giant waves in the southern province of Phang Nga due to a monsoon depression. The local people have been warned of flash floods and flooding. The shops are located on the beach in Takhua Pa district. They were wiped out by the giant waves and strong winds earlier this week before the waves became less violent on Tuesday. At the famous tourist destination Khao Lak, the waves were over two meters high, prompting hotels and resorts on the beach to urgently repair wave barriers in front of their properties. Meanwhile, continuous heavy rains made the water in Phang Nga canal darker in color, signaling the possibility of flash floods and flooding in areas along the canal. Provincial officers opened all sluice gates in Mueang district to quickly discharge water into the sea and prevent the canal from overflowing.
