Gift for Trudy: 86 year old Trudy seemed down yesterday when I visited in the patio, so when I was going through my clothes, putting away summer ones in the back of the closet, I came upon a light turquoise 3-piece pants suit I thought would fit her. It is decorated with white daisies which is a flower I have never cared for, and strangely kept me from wearing this outfit much at all. But I thought it would look nice on her with her white hair. And then I decided to give her a gold leaf blouse too fancy for me to wear around here but not for her, to see if she wanted it, plus a velveteen stretch top warm for winter but with big colored squares. Squares I dont like either, so knew I would not wear it with pleasure. So I took them down to the patio where she still was as she will sit out there for hours. She has no family anywhere near here, so the Westward Ho residents are her family. Oh, did her eyes light up when she looked closely at the clothes. (She can still see enough to do that). She adored the gold leaf fancy blouse, too. She said, oh, thats my style. I know that women and some men can take such pleasure in clothes, just a new outfit can be a cheerer-upper! It was cheering to me to put a smile back on her face, as I was later to hear the sad news that Mary Jo Brambles 87 year old Ma fell and broke her hip yesterday. I always fear a mishap like that for Trudy since she cant see very well, and can hardly straighten up at all, her back is so bad, but so far so good. Also a friend from the past, LaRena Hall, 83, entirely blind from macular degeneration, fell and broke her hip a couple of years ago, and now has fallen and gotten a bad concussion requiring two operations on her brain to relieve pressure. Time has resulted in the eroding of our friendship. Neither of us can get around Phoenix that well. People near her will need to do for her as I do for my friends and neighbors mostly in this complex who are getting on in years. As others will need to do for Mary Jos mother who will be operated on today. Trudy will not let me take a photo of her, she has gained too much weight she says.
