Its going to take a lot longer for the effects to take hold, because the delay is at least 40 years. So even if we stopped burning fossil fuels right this moment, we wouldnt see a halt to the effects for 40 years, especially in the oceans. Even a conservative friend of mine works in geological research and she said the amount of CCs of carbon that are in the atomosphere now since the industrial revolution is potentially a problem. Same with how much warmer our oceans have gotten. Its safer to be wrong about climate change and still seek energy sources that btw, are never-ending (wind, solar, nuclear, water) then it is to assume that were not contributing to the rate of change and then pay the consequences. But with that said, we cant afford to change our energy policy overnight at the expense of our economy.
