Girl’s abduction bid foiled in Sopore, abductors arrested Srinagar, June 17: The people and police Sopore area of Baramulla district on Tuesday aborted an abduction bid of a teenage girl by three abductors. The traders of Sopore told GNS that three abductors tried to abduct teenage girl (name withheld) by bundling her into a car (bearing registration number 4151). “However, when we saw that she is being abducted we caught the kidnappers and saved the ‘innocent’ girl,” Muhammad Ashraf, who is the president of Traders Federation Sopore, told GNS. Police have identified the kidnappers as Umar Maqbool Lone son of Mohammad Maqbool Lone resident of Lorihama, Aaqib Hassan Rather and Umar Hassan Rather sons of Ghulam Hassan Rather resident of Achabal. A police official said Umar is the main accused who was chasing the girl from a long time. Ashraf said that they have verified the background of the girl and she is from a ‘modest’ family. “We spoke to her and told us that she has nothing to do with Umar,” he said. Quoting the girl, Ashraf said: “Umar was my classmate but now I have nothing to do with him. He has been chasing me from a long time. He even told me that I will get your brother killed.” “Soon after the incident, we called police and they arrested these abductors,” he said. The abductors were beaten to pulp by locals, witnesses said. Meanwhile, police said the abductors were caught red-handed by Sopore police while attempting to abduct one girl (name with held) near SBI Branch at Sopore. “The general public and pedestrians also gathered on-spot and tried to set ablaze the kidnappers car…which was saved by police interference,” police said. A case FIR number 91/2014 under section 366, 511, 354,109 RPC stands registered in Police Station Sopore and investigation is going on. Meanwhile, the locals and traders’ body hailed police action and demanded that the police must take further steps to curb moral waywardness.
