“Give me the child until he is seven and I’ll give you the man” - St. Francis You see, we are like advanced computers. The first seven years of our life are called the formative years. And formatting is the first thing you do to a hard drive. This is where you install the operating system which has the basic programming to process the input. At this very moment, your computer is receiving input in the form of 1’s and 0’s, processing that information and finally outputting something on to your screen. Your computer is functioning properly. Input to processing to output. But what if you had viruses or bad programming on your computer? Your computer may be slow, it may crash or it will act up in some strange way. It definitely will not output correctly. Well it’s a good thing for computers that they can be reformatted and reprogrammed to new condition. But human beings, not so much. Look at what we output as a whole. We are murdering nature, enslaving people and distracting people from the divine truths of themselves and the world around them. In those formative years, children absorb everything. If they are told to believe something, and have parents that do not encourage curiosity and questioning, by saying things like “because I said so” or using fear to get the child to act in line, they will be programmed to respond to authority figures without question. They will more likely be easy to convince, taking things as presented. Think about it…they haven’t been able to establish a sufficient critical process in the most important years of their life. There is no critical program. They learn instead, to respond to authority with emotion rather than reason. On the other hand, if a child has parents who encourage their natural curiosity, helping the child form understandings of the world based on reason rather than faith, the child will grow to be a person that makes more sound decisions based on a discovery process, a person not so easily duped and one that will need reason before they support authorities or belief systems. The danger in the “because I told you so” and the “just do it”, is that this becomes THE WAY to accept authority. And they will meet authority figures for the rest of their lives. They will OBEY people who do not care for them like you. And we know that those with authority over people that they do not care about, are NOT the ones to lend our blind faith. And so we know that you mean well, but take the few extra moments in their childhood and reason with your child. It will go a long way. Don’t be cruel to your children. Give them the ability to think critically. This world is full of people in authority positions who are far from good or moral, who don’t care like you. Religion can be a good thing, but one needs to be critical of it. They need to discover it. If we had more critical minded people voting and involved in world affairs, we wouldn’t be losing so much of our freedom year after year. Religion comes from the Latin word Religare which literally means to hold back, to tie down. This is clearly a word that expresses bondage. The ancient Romans knew this. But at the time, the peasants couldn’t even read. This was a cruel way of getting masses conditioned to follow tyrannical authority. I think its about time people really started educating themselves on these systems and how they truly came to be. This is the information age and its all out there. There is no excuse for ignorance and child abuse.
