Given how geographically far I live from most members of my biological family, every moment of time that I can spend with one or more is extra special. Today was one of those heart warming times. Brittany Baird, one of my special nieces, and I went to see an afternoon performance of Peter and the Starcatcher at the Ahmanson Theatre followed by a very delicious dinner at a top notch place close by (I had mussels soup and lamb stew. Brittany and I shared floating island dessert, a special treat for me full of feel good memories from my maternal grandmothers side.) We caught up a bit on each others lives and then she drove me back to my dreary little apartment which doesnt seem quite like such a prison after such a pleasant day. The pleasure of the time with Brittany was sufficient onto itself but was further enhanced when two former colleagues (retired now) came into the same bistro where Brit and I were eating. We renewed our contact information and I had the honor of introducing Brittany to them. Brittany is like my three children whom I not only love but I also like because they are genuinely fine people.
