Given that we rank one of the lowest in terms of press freedom and that we have a rather weak civil society, i think university professors should accord a certain respect to newspaper forums, instead of encouraging their students to write in for the sake of class participation. This completely misses the point on CLASS participation and is unabashedly self serving. You get writers who inelegantly name drop multiple heavy philosophical concepts without explanation. The arguments tend to be weak and the assertions, unsubstantiated. It doesnt add any value to public discourse and it quite frankly makes the writer look like baby trying to play dress up in mommys clothes. Its an embarrassment.
