Giving Eid greetings Before the Eid salaah is not permissible & opposes the Sunnah. Shaykh Al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) was asked about the ruling of giving Eid greetings and congratulations a day or two days before the Eid Salaah. The Shaykh responded: It is not permissible to give congratulations and Eid greetings before the Eid. Rather it is to be done on Eid day (itself). And a custom has spread amongst the people and it is congratulating for the Eid before (the Eid) by days or hours, or even before the Eid salaah, and claim that he was the first to congratulate, and this opposes the Sunnah, for the Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallaam) and the companions (radiAllaahu anhum) did not used to congratulate (one another) for the Eid exccept after the tasleem of Eid salaah. And indeed the Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallaam) said: It is upon you to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly guided Khulafaa after me. And what is obligatory upon the Muslims is striving to refer back to and look into the Sunnah of the Prophet, and this is from reviving the Sunan and causing bidah to die out.
