Gladiator Graduate In the News: Danielle Burris (12) Shenandoah Athletics October 30, 2014 DELAWARE, Ohio - Junior Danielle Burris is a now a candidate for Academic All-America honors in All-District selections announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Burris, a 3.98 student as a Kinesiology/Pre-Physical Therapy major, was named to the Capital One All-District V first team in voting conducted by CoSIDA. As a first team member, Burris now moves on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. Should she be selected, the Cooksville, Maryland native would become the 14th student-athlete in school history, and second womens soccer player, to earn Academic All-America honors. Shenandoah has had at least one student-athlete in each of the past eight years named Academic AA. To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve on their team. Nominees are voted on in one of eight national districts by CoSIDA members with first team All-District honorees moving on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. This season, Burris leads the Hornets with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. She earned third team All-ODAC honors last season. The team captain was named to the Stellar One ODAC All-Sportsmanship last season as well as earning Academic All-State honors. She is a member of the Alpha Chi and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies in addition to holding membership in the Shenandoah University Health and Life Sciences Club. Off-campus, Burris is involved in Habitat for Humanity and Hungry Hearts, volunteers at the Salvation Army and Bass-Hoover Elementary School and as a reading mentor at Quarles Elementary School.
