Glen of rothes trout and coarse fishery Steady fishing throughout the week and smaller flies were in the main the most productive as conditions with warm temperatures kept fish high in the water .What was required was some fresh water which the weekend certainly provided and once this subsides will make fish alot livelier and fishing should be good.Despite this there was still plenty of good catches and good fish being caught and it was all down to those who were able to change tactics to suit rather than maintain the same style always used in the hope that it would work, when simply the ones used one week ago are long gone and each day requires tactics to suit on the day. This is the key to successful fishing.Change to conditions. An example of some catches during the week were,Gordon Grant who had 14,Hamish Munro with 8,Bryan Wyllie had his best fish of 7lb 11ozs,george Nicholson had 9,Scott Burness had 7,Bob Mann had 6,and Barry Graham had 6.Best flies were black buzzers, kate mclarens, and Nymphs. The all night Competition saw a late change during the night to the weather but still it was a great evening for all.It got off to a great start with the first fish to be weighed in was worth £50 and collected for being tagged by Charlie McPhee who later returned another one. With plenty of good fish around anyone could have latched into one and it was very open. One big fish certainly was not going to win it.At the weigh in the final results showed that in 1st place John Mellon had won with 2 fish for 12lbs 2ozs,best at 8lb 4ozs and collected the £200 prize money,2nd place went to David McKay with 2 fish for 10lb 7ozs who collected the cash prize for 2nd ,best at 8lb 6ozs,3rd place went to Gordon Grant with 1 fish for 8lb 5ozs and received the cash for 3rd. There was £51 raised in the auction for charity and the fishery made this upto £100 which will go to "Fishing for Heroes" a charity which deals with the mental trauma of service and x service veterans.A big thankyou to all who made the evening a great night enjoyed by all. Coarse loch John Allsop had a great session with plenty of fishincluding carp, bream along with a good mix of roach, rudd and ide.dave Latty had carp to 5lbs,skimmers and roach in his session and John again had another session full of fish with bream ,ide, rudd and gudgeon but no carp this time.Freshwater should help this week as it has been needed and those who had planned to fish at the weekend had to cancel after seeing conditions forecast as the lochs rose by over 4 inches and didnt make for good fishing.
