Gloria Hanson running for Fort Pierre Mayor in 2014 Gloria Hanson, who has always been proud of her Fort Pierre roots, now wants to help the city keep growing as Mayor. Hanson Tuesday announced that she will run for Fort Pierre Mayor in the April, 2014 election. Current Mayor Sam Tidball had earlier said he would not run for re-election. As a current Fort Pierre city council member, Hanson is already part of city government. Hanson says she thought about running for Mayor only in the last few months. Hanson is the current executive director of the Capital Area United Way. She is a Fort Pierre native, graduated from Fort Pierre High School and has worked in the public and private sectors while also owning her own business. She says that background, combined with what she is learning as a council member, would give her a vast range of experiences to draw on as Mayor. If elected Mayor, Hanson says she wants to focus on expanding the city’s growth while also maintaining the community’s small-town, Old West charm. Among the issues Hanson would focus on is infrastructure, especially improving city streets; and city beautification. Hanson says she would want the city working on such issues together.
