Glossary Of Prepper Terms Preppers are like any community or group - they have their own terminology and jargon. For someone who is new to the world of prepping this can be confusing. So here is a helpful glossary of prepper terms... BIB: Bug In Bag. A bag of essential items for when you’re riding out an emergency situation at home. BOB: Bug Out Bag. A bag of essential items for when you have to evacuate. (see Bug Out Bag List) BOL: Bug-out Location. Where you plan to go when you Bug Out. BOV: Bug-out Vehicle. The vehicle you Bug Out in. Bug Out / Bugging Out: A military term that means to leave a place in a hurry. Carrington Event: A natural event in 1859 that was caused by a CME of the Sun. (see Solar Storm) CME: Coronal Mass Ejection. (see Solar Storm) EMP: ElectroMagnetic Pulse. A gigantic burst of atmospheric electricity which produces magnetic fields that can induce ground currents intense enough to burn out power lines and electrical equipment. (see Solar Storm) FIFO: First In, First Out. A practice used for food storage rotation. (see Food Safety) FEMA: Federal Emergency Management Agency. GOOD: Get Out of Dodge. To escape the city in the event of a major emergency. The same as Bugging Out. GOOD Kit: Get Out of Dodge Kit. The same as a BOB. HDPE: High Density Polyethylene. Used in milk, juice and water containers because of its excellent protective barrier properties. Most five gallon food grade buckets are made from HDPE. ITS: Indefinite TEOTWAWKI Scenario. JIT: Just In Time. The inventory system used by supermarkets where they only store 3 days supplies at any one time. (see 9 Meals From Anarchy) Kindling: Small dry twigs and sticks used to build a fire. (see How To Build A Fire) MRE: Meal, Ready to Eat. Freeze-Dried survival food kits. Pollyanna: Someone who is in denial that TEOTWAWKI could occur and/or remains cheerfully optimistic, even when there is evidence to the contrary. Potable: Water that is suitable for human consumption. To Prep: Slang for To Prepare. Prepper: A person who prepares for any emergency situation. Preps: Slang for a prepper’s preparations. SHEEPLE: A combination of the words Sheep and People. Those who think that when an emergency/disaster occurs the government will provide, and mindlessly give up their rights to those who they perceive to be in authority. Shelf Life: The useful/safe life of any product (especially food) that you store for an emergency situation. (see Food Safety) SHTF: S**t Hits the Fan. When an emergency situation occurs. SIP: Survive In Place. To hunker down and ride out the event at home. (see Urban Survival) TEOTWAWKI: The End Of The World As We Know It. This isnt automatically an indefinite worst case. There are 3 types of TEOTWAKI Scenarios: short-term, long-term and indefinite. Tinder: Used to start to build a fire. Fine flammable material that will easily catch a spark. (see How To Build A Fire) WROL: Without Rule Of Law. A time of anarchy and disregard for the law and normal codes of behavior. YOYO: Youre On Your Own. When government ceases to provide essential services such as fire department and police department protection, and when utilities no longer provide water, sanitation, electricity and phone service.
