#GlutenSugarFree - I remember the first week of January 2013 very vividly. I had made the decision to go (processed) sugar free for the entire year. and as I stood in the supermarket with tears running down my face, I was struck by the realisation that things were going to be a little harder than anticipated. There were only so many vegetables and salad I could face (and I love them). The thing I learnt quite quickly though was that if you just try to replace the foods you used to eat with a supposedly sugar free version you are going to be in strife. Going sugar free is about learning new habits and learning to eat in a whole new way. I personally had a real problem with the philosophy that it was OK to eat powdered glucose but not fructose. I do not have a degree in nutrition, it just didnt make good common sense to me. Foods are presented to us in nature with the right chemistry and balance. It is human intervention, processing and pollution that has turned out food into food like substances. Do I eat sugar now? Well yes but I cant eat a lot of sugary foods anyway because they go hand in hand with gluten, something that I can never eat again. The one thing that I do, however, is to make sure I have outstanding nutritional supplementation to make sure that I get all the nutrients my body needs.
