What I didnt realize was that this is the 5th version of the Pledge. The first version was in 1892, I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. ... they say that it was meant to be quick and to the point and that the author almost added the words equality and fraternity, but left them out because the committee didnt consider women and minorities to be equal.
