Go to: https://youtube/watch?v=HxliLhcnyAY. Im having a WON-DER-FUL day!--as Richard Dreyfuss says throughout a day in which he cant lose in one of my all-time favorite films, Let It Ride (a great scene: Jennifer Tilly, packed in a bright red dress no bigger than a handkerchief, tells Dreyfuss shed like to sleep with him, and he turns to the camera and says, Am I having a good day?). Bob Danziger has completed work on the video project for which he asked me to read my translation of Osip Mandelstams poem No, never was I anyones contemporary, and Bob has posted it on YouTube: Again, you can find it at: https://youtube/watch?v=HxliLhcnyAY. (For some crazy reason, the YouTube box below is saying the video is not available--but pay that no mind. One never knows, do one?--as Fats Waller would say.). Working with Bob Danziger on this project has been fascinating and Ive gained invaluable lessons in audio, film, and digital finesse--all at the mind and hands of the amazing Bob Danziger. First he had me select a piece from his Brandenburg 300 project (I chose Brandenburg 22 Rembrandt, with its impressive improvisation by Albert Wing, Mike Miller, and Bob); I read the poem over (and within) that--to which he added visual material (I gave him the names of Russian artists from Mandelstams era: Kandinsky, Malevich, Chagall, Nathan Altmans Portrait of Anna Akhmatova, Levitan, Vrubel; and also some my own work, a series of drawings and woodcut prints Id done of Mandelstam, other pieces of my own art work, and some photos from my life). Bob located excellent photos of Mandelstam--his intent to make this video a genuine Mandelstam and Minor (the title of the piece) collaboration: to honor the poet and also, as he put it, the fact that Ive survived. Im grateful for having survived in my own small life (compared to that of Osip Mandelstam) and grateful to Bob Danziger for the time, energy, and immense talent (which extends in many directions) he gave to this project--one that the results of which are a thrill for me to witness now, and to have been a part of. Spasibo bolshoy, Bob! Thanks
