Goal analysis tonight: Trochek vs Lehner (failed long-body - TopicsExpress

Goal analysis tonight: Trochek vs Lehner (failed long-body technique) on a shoot out the goalies best option is to match the speed of the skater, moving backwards in a speed proportionate to the skaters forward motion. Lehner does this nicely but actually fails to stop a brief second too early, as Trochek comes to a near standstill (see the ice fly up on the replay as Trochek digs in). the move itself would not be catastrophic as Lehner adjusted his speed sufficiently well enough to keep Trochek within the poke zone (within a Sticks length such that he can poke check), however as Trocheck makes his move, Lehner opts for the desperation blocking technique known as a long body save, whereby he goes into full extension while flaring out the legs to seal the ice. unfortunately for Lehner his momentum had been carrying him back into the right post so he barely missed cutting off the left. Great example though of a choice between a desperation blocking technique and an aggressive move.
