Goals and the Scale The scale is one way to analyze the progress - TopicsExpress

Goals and the Scale The scale is one way to analyze the progress of an exercise and nutrition program. There is more to the equation than just weight loss. Yes we all want to look good, be toned and thin. The scale number is one-dimensional. The scale does not show how many pounds of fat is on the body or the amount of lean muscle mass. When setting up your fitness goals go deeper than just the scale number. A person that weighs 200 pounds might be healthier than a person that is weighing in at 120 pounds. If the person weighing in at 200 pounds has a body fat percentage of 15%, this person would be healthier than the person weighing in at 120 pounds with a 35% body fat. The person weighing 200 pounds with a 15% body fat would be carrying 30 pounds of body fat. The person weighing 120 pounds at 35% would have 42 pounds of body fat. Who do you think looks better? Wo do you think is healthier? The scale is a helpful tool that we need to assess the progress of our efforts. the scale is not the only domination. Exercise helps us live a healthier lifestyle. Benefits of an exercise program is better health, better self-esteem, strength, endurance, better sleep, better physical appearance, just to name a few. When evaluating your progress analyze how you feel, look in the mirror, sleep, stress, mood, eating patterns, energy, weight, body fat percentage, resting heart rate, cholesterol, balance and strength. All of these will show the progress of the time you are spending in the gym. Some will show quicker than others. All of these are of importance. We all have one goal that is similar. We all want to enjoy our life. We can enjoy our life by staying healthy. Exercise is big part of the puzzle in health benefits. Better health should be the top priority not just a scale number.
