“God Is Faithful” We like to deal with folks who are faithful. - TopicsExpress

“God Is Faithful” We like to deal with folks who are faithful. That is, we prefer to do business with, be around, and talk to individuals who will not betray our trust, those who will keep their word when they promise us something. The same is true spiritually speaking. We would not find it reasonable to serve someone who is unable to keep his promises. However, as Christians, we have nothing to fear about God being faithful to us. Let’s observe some things regarding this: God Is The Definition Of “Faithful” When we are curious about what the word “faithful” means, we ought to look no further than to God Himself. “Thus says the LORD, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the LORD who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel; And He has chosen You” (Is. 49:7). No man is as faithful as our God! Nothing in this world can be trusted more than He can be trusted. How God’s Faithfulness Is Demonstrated To Us 1. God provides a way to overcome Satan. We can easily become discouraged when we struggle in overcoming a particular temptation. However, we can take courage from the fact that God is faithful to us in this area! “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Cor. 10:13). We can keep on fighting the good fight of faith because we know that it can be won. We can overcome the devil. “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one” (2 Thess. 3:3). 2. God will forgive sin. While it is possible for us to be victorious over the devil, we all fall short from time to time (Rom. 3:23). However, we have assurance that, as children of God, we can be forgiven of those sins. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). A positive example of this is found in Acts 8:14-25 with Simon the sorcerer. After becoming a child of God, he tried to buy the opportunity to receive the Holy Spirit. After committing this wickedness he was told to “Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you” (Acts 8:22). When we repent of and confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us of those sins. 3. God is able to grant His children eternal life. Christians are striving to inherit eternal life. Fortunately, God is able to grant that to those who are faithful to Him. “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Cor. 1:9). Since God has called us into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, He is well able to keep us there and grant us eternal life (see Romans 8:31-39). “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it (1 Thess. 5:23-24). God is faithful, and able to give us eternal life. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). This blessing is only in Christ! God Is Faithful In Fulfilling His Promises These 3 promises mean nothing to us if it is impossible for God to keep His promises. So, is God able to fulfill those things He has promised to us? (1) He was able to fulfill His promises in the Old Testament. “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments” (Deut. 7:9). (2) As Paul was teaching the Romans about faith in God, he illustrated the faith of Abraham, saying, “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform” (Rom. 4:20-21). Since we ought to have faith like Abraham had, we must believe that God is able to fulfill His promises! Conclusion God is faithful. We must never worry that God is not able to fulfill His promises. Rather, we must put our entire faith in Him and better serve Him in the future. - Eric Krieg -
