God didn’t need to create man. But His love and unity compelled Him to expand His community beyond Himself. God is independent and self-sufficient but God is also love -- the very epitome and expression of love itself. Love requires an object. God must therefore be more than one person. And He is: Father, Son & Holy Spirit. They enjoyed perfect community and were fully complete and satisfied before the world began. Perfect community desires greater community. But love cannot exist without a choice. And there’s the rub: how to create individuals who are like Him and willingly choose to love Him.
