God keeps right on changing us and transforming us from our misshapen personalities into rightly formed characters in the image of Jesus. God almost never meets with us to verify our present perfection. While He will often encourage us and commend us for our obedience in particular areas of our lives, such commendation follows on the heels of a previous call for change in our lives. I cannot recall any aspect of my life that had not previously been changed by God, for which God commended me or congratulated me. That offends my pride because I want to be told how right I have been in my thinking or behavior, not how right I can be if I change my thoughts or actions. And yet, I find deep in my heart the desire to be like Jesus is stronger than the desire to not change. So change me Lord, again and again (Philippians 1:6).
