Goddess Tara is revered in Hinduism and Buddhism. I always think of Tara, Durga, Quan Yin, Kannon as the Compassionate Mothers who are present for us 24/7. No matter if you have never done a practice dedicated to one of them, simply if during a time of extreme need and/or danger you remember one of them, not even necessarily calling them by a name, you will receive assistance. The Tara mantra most frequently used is for the Green Tara (there are 21 forms of Tara in the Buddhist tradition) -- the mantra is: OM TARE TUTARE TURE SWAHA (SOHA).
