Godown Beats Stangle on Final Turn in New Egypt Thriller New Egypt, NJ (August 10, 2013) – Ryan Godown of Ringoes, NJ won his sixth feature of the season on Saturday evening as he won the 30-lap 358 Modified feature on Beach Party Night sponsored by Normandy Real Estate Partners. Godown slid under John Stangle on the final turn, and after some brief contact held off Stangle’s charge back to the inside to win the race by just five feet. John Stangle brought the field to the start and quickly charged into the lead. Stangle looked strong again as he charged ahead of the field, however, by lap 8 Ryan Godown was up to second and quickly moved in to challenge Stangle for the lead. For the next 12 laps Godown raced side by side or right behind Stangle applying constant pressure, but to no avail. With 8 laps to go Stangle began pulling back away as he pulled out to a 4 car length advantage and seemed to be headed to his first career win. However Godown continued to hit his marks and closed back in as the duo raced into lapped traffic with just two laps to go. The final lap saw Godown throw caution to the wind as he charged into turn three and pulled off the slidejob in turn four. The two cars touched briefly, as Stangle slingshot back to the inside and pulled next to Godown as they raced across the finish line with Godown posting the victory by just a few feet. David Van Horn was a solid third at the finish, followed by point leader Billy Pauch and Johnny Gaurino. Clay Butler of Milford, NJ was the winner of the 20 lap Sportsman main event. The defending Sportsman champ was very strong on this night, driving to the lead by halfway and then cruising to the victory despite a good run by point leader Bob Lineman Jr. who settled for second. Kevin Vaclavicek, Mike Hendershot and Mike Howardson rounded out the top five. Bill Liedtka won his sixth feature of 2013 in the Street Stock 20 lap feature event. Dan Collamer was a strong second, followed by Scott Dugan, Marty Derr and Jarrod Burdge. Next Saturday, August 17th, New Egypt Speedway will present Carnival Night, with Carnival games to play before the races, and dollar food specials. On the track, the Sportsman will be headlining the events this week, joined by the FASTRAK Crate Sportsman, the Hilborn TSRS 305 Sprint cars and the FASTRAK Late Models. Saturday will also be the first Demo Derby of the season. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm.
