Godwin Obue I read President Goodluck Jonathan is very sick and have been flown to Germany for treatment. I wish him speedy recovery. Mr President goes to Germany for the treatment. His wife goes to Germany for treatment. The governors, their wives and children tour round the world seeking for qualitative heath care. All the elective Officers goes to America, Europe and India for treatment. All the political appointees goes to oversea for treatment. Top Nigerian politicians flies outside Nigeria to treat headache so on and so forth. Once upon a time University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital known as University College Hospital (UCH) was among the best four Teaching Hospital in comity of nations (Common Wealth of Nations). Overtime due to the negligence and I dont care attitude towards our health care, Nigerian Hospitals have deteriorated and become advance mortuaries. Majority of our best brain have been enticed by foreign hospitals with better facilities and favorable environment. Brain Drain have eaten dip in the sector. Today doctors are on strike. The effect of seeking treatment oversea have caused huge capital flight to Nigeria economy. It has also caused psychological effect to many of our home based medical doctors. The trend have also allow more decay in the sector hence those who are in position to appropriate fund to the sector do not have first time information because they dont use the facilities at all. The Nigerian masses who do not have money to seek medical treatment outside Nigeria are left to suffer the consequences of the effect of government neglect. The time have come to overhaul the health sector. Health sector is now part of tourism. Is a sector that brings in billions of foreign exchange to countries who have developed their health sector. India alone receive millions of dollars annually from Nigerians. Nations generate billions of dollars from the sector annually. A nation without a workable health system can never produce to it optimum level. Health is Wealth! Once again I pray and wish Mr. President quick recovery.
