* Going Koalas in Gunnedah * Mullaley, Tambar Springs, Flags Reserve * Amount Raised: $28,726.05 - Number of Sponsors 83 Were still adjusting to the rich, green yonder after the red, dry drought land of Queensland. What a contrast in such a short distance! I think the horses are also having a ball with so much yummy food. We arrived in Gunnedah and set up our camp on a narrow strip between the Kamilaroi Highway and a side street outside the Gunnedah Timber Mill. We didnt want to be IN town, but close to our departure point for the following days ride to Mullaley, hence the unusual sleep on the highway camp. Gunnedah is situated amid the fertile black soil plains of the Namoi River valley, 440 km north-west of Sydney. The regions beauty is said to have inspired much of Dorothea Mackellars poetry. The district has booming wheat, cotton and cattle industries, and the towns large wild koala population has led to Gunnedahs self-proclaimed title of the koala capital of the world. We really hit the bulls eye when I had made contact with one of Gunnedahs finest gems: Wendy Marsh, Secretary of a Gunnedah Rotary Club. She quickly organised a steak & sausage sizzle fundraiser evening with her Club. So off to the Gunnedah Police Citizens & Youth Club where they hold their Monday meetings for a great night of fun, fundraising with new friends. I guess if you are a Rotarian or have attended as a guest you will have witnessed the fun silliness of fining members for anything as a fundraiser and a laugh. We also had amongst the guests Gunnedahs Mayor, Owen Hassler to sign Harolds book. We think he is keen to make a bid for the book at our conclusion auction so the book returns to Gunnedah! We returned to our camp, and hitched the horses up to a secure fence along the mill away from the ever-present road trains and went to sleep with nary a koala in sight!!! Dont think we can simply rely upon the good folks generosity we meet for donations...we do need you too. So please dig deep to help our LR4L fundraising Donate HERE: my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/longride4life
