Going to school in a predominantly red county, I hear almost exclusively negative things about Obamacare. Id like to point out that Americans healthcare system has been far from exceptional. Although there are flaws in the Affordable Care Act, there are indisputable benefits to the plan that are a necessary step in the right direction. No longer can new mothers be denied insurance for the crazy costs of bringing a human in the world if she loses or quits her job during pregnancy. Those hundreds of thousands of American households pushed to bankruptcy due to the cost to fight cancer and other chronic conditions? They no longer have to worry about being dropped from their insurance because of a life-time cap. Your parents and/or grandparents who could be shelling out up to hundreds a month on pills to simply keep them alive, can look forward to the huge gap in coverage being closed within the next decade, and financial assistance for the time being. These are only a few of the benefits added to our healthcare system. Is there a way to keep and add to these advantages in a new plan that doesnt contain as many flaws? Im not going to pretend I even have an idea, but I know there are many people way smarter than I am working to figure that out right now. In the meantime, I am thankful for these improvements and just wanted to remind my friends and family that there are almost always pros, along with the cons.
