Going to see the fabulous Perri Alleyne Hughes and Neil Campbell performing Joni Mitchells Blue album tonight at the Capstone Theatre. Show starts at 7.30PM.. Perri Alleyne-Hughes - vocals Neil Campbell - classical guitar Roger Gardiner - bass Viktor Nordberg - drums and percussion From its opening line I am on a lonely road and I am travelling to the introspection of the Dark cafe days of its closing moments, Joni Mitchells 1971 classic album Blue almost single-handedly defined the confessional singer-songwriter aesthetic. Led by the mellifluous vocals of Perri Alleyne-Hughes (Sense of Sound) and the sensitive genius of classical guitarist Neil Campbell (Ghost Stories, Bulbs, Guitars and Other Machines), The Blue Project presents a performance of the complete Blue album in sequence, with a new interpretation that draws on jazz and classical styles. Norwegian drummer-percussionist Viktor Nordberg, a highly sought after session player, provides a delicious rhythmic backdrop throughout. He is very ably aided and abetted by the juicy bass work of Roger Gardiner (Dead Poppies). Alongside classic Joni, the Quartet will perform a second set which will focus on their own highly personal songs and compositions, many of which will be performed for the first time at this concert.
