Gold dealers warn of business closure Added At: 2013-06-13 3:48 PM Last Updated At: 2013-06-13 3:48 PM THT ONLINE KATHMANDU: Gold and silver dealers on Thursday warned of closing their businesses until the government creates an environment to run them smoothly. In a joint press conference here in the Capital, the Association of Nepal Gold and Silver Entrepreneurs (NGSE) and Nepal Gold, Silver, Gem and Jewellery Federation urged the government to stop the ongoing market monitoring, claiming that it was not on a part with any standard or directive. They demanded that the actions taken against the dealers till the date be revoked. They further pointed out the need for formulation of new monitoring directive and standards by taking up suggestions from them. NGSE Chairman Manik Ratna Shakya said the dealers would welcome the monitoring only if it was carried out after formulating directives and standards. He dubbed the ongoing market monitoring as "guerrilla way" and "humiliating." Shakya further claimed that the ongoing monitoring could not address the issues related to the Nepali gold and silver ornaments that are prepared in a traditional method. According to him, the government lacked knowledge and technology to monitor the gold and silver market.
