Gonna tell you about a track that literally stopped me in my tracks and opened up the world of “Modern Soul” within the sphere of Northernsoul and that track was Soul Bros. Inc. – Pyramid. It for me epitomises quality soul with its melancholy sweetness that seduces you from the intro, by the time I finished hearing this I was madly deeply truly in love with it and didn’t require any ear worm that seems so necessary now days. Soul Bros. Inc. are out of Houston, Texas originally on Tramp Records label and this almost pedestrian tune still manages to fill the dance floor even in the main room where the stomper still reigns supreme, one of the magical things this down tempo classic manages is to render the tempo obsolete to dancers and that is an amazing thing indeed. I do chuckle to myself though when I watch the sixties stuck in the muds dance to this punching the air with a soul fist yet still refusing to set foot into the Modern Room, their loss and they should all burn in the cleansing flames, Disco Inferno!
