If not, you should start to get to know it as soon as possible as it will help you a lot with your english skills. ^.^ SUFFIXES AND PREFIXES When reading, you will come across unfamiliar words. It is often possible to guess their meaning if you understand the way words in English are generally formed. An English word can be divided into three parts: • Root/ base word • A prefix • A suffixes “PRE” means “BEFORE” therefore, a PREFIX is what COMES BEFORE THE ROOT/BASE WORD. Prefixes usually change the meaning of the word. A SUFFIX is ATTACHED to the END OF THE ROOT/BASE WORD. A Suffix can change the meaning of the word and it can also form the part of speech. Below are group of common suffixes. (I’ll update the group of prefixes later, as these are important and it will help you to identify which words is noun, adjective, verb and adverb easier).
