Good Afternoon Folks....... A lovely day today but all that to change tomorrow and friday with showers forecast and slowly increasing to rain... Bring it I say, as the lawns and gardens certainly do need a drink, so Im strapping on my rain dancing shoes as we speak. :) Currently its 22.9C with the humidity at 64%................ Below is your forecast for tomorrow. _____________________________________________________ This is the Official Forecast for Thursday 14th of August 2014 for Gladstone to Cooktown and west to Mt Isa. _____________________________________________________ Wind Warnings for Thursday 14 August Strong Wind Warning for the following areas: South East Gulf of Carpentaria, Torres Strait, Peninsula Coast, Cooktown Coast, Townsville Coast, Mackay Coast and Capricornia Coast. Weather Situation A strong high over the Great Australian Bight will gradually weaken as it moves slowly eastwards over southeastern Australia during Thursday and into the Tasman Sea Friday. An upper level low will deepen over northern South Australia during Thursday and Friday before moving east southeast over New South Wales during the weekend. A surface trough will deepen over western Queensland on Thursday in response to the upper low. This trough and an associated rain band should then shift east over the state from Friday and is expected to clear the southern coast during Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Showers and scattered thunderstorms over the southern and central interior east of Longreach to Cunnamulla. Isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland. Possible isolated showers elsewhere through the central and southeast interior. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds in the far west. Fresh and gusty southeasterly winds along the east coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere. Thursday 14 August Showers increasing to rain areas over the southern interior southeast of about Longreach to Windorah with possible isolated thunderstorms. Showers also increasing to rain at times about the east tropical coast during the evening with possible local thunder developing. Isolated to scattered showers over the remaining east coast, and also through the tropical and central interior where isolated thunderstorms are possible during the late afternoon and evening. Mostly fine over the Capricornia and southeast interior with just the chance of isolated showers. A cool and mostly sunny day in the far west with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds over the remaining interior, tending fresh and gusty southeasterly near the east coast. Friday 15 August The ridge along the east Queensland coast will gradually relax as the high shifts east into the Tasman Sea and continues to weaken. The upper low over South Australia will move eastwards towards northern New South Wales, with the surface trough over western Queensland deepening and shifting a little eastwards as a result. A cloud and rain band with possible isolated storms and locally heavy falls will extend southwest from the east tropical coast through the central and southern interior and should contract further east southeast with the trough during the day. Isolated to scattered showers will occur over the southeastern corner of the state in an onshore flow. The far west should remain fine and sunny apart from near the southwestern border where some isolated showers will likely develop. Daytime temperatures will be well below the August average underneath the cloud band and also through the far west of the state in the southerly winds. Saturday 16 August The upper low is expected to shift east southeast into northern New South Wales while the surface trough should shift further east over Queensland, most likely extending from the central coast to the Maranoa by evening. The thundery rain band with possible heavy falls will therefore contract further southeast during the day, gradually extending from central districts and the southern interior into the southeastern corner of the state. Isolated to scattered showers will continue about the tropics in an onshore wind flow. A relatively moist airmass will extend into southwestern Queensland in the wake of the trough generating isolated showers. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected in the northwest. Daytime temperatures will remain below average over much of the state due to cloud cover or southerly winds. Sunday 17 August The upper low is expected to move further east southeast over New South Wales while the surface trough will contract east off the southern Queensland coast during the afternoon or evening. The rain band with possible locally heavy falls will shift southeast through the Capricornia and southeast districts, most likely contracting off the southern coast during the morning, with a dry, gusty westerly change then clearing any remaining shower activity late in the day. Some low cloud will persist through the southern interior with possible isolated showers. A new high will move east over South Australia, extending a weak ridge and an onshore wind flow into the eastern tropics north of Townsville with isolated to scattered showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. _____________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Cloudy.
