Good Afternoon Folks........ The showers have eluded us so far and have stayed in the north but as the day progressed a few darker clouds linger to the west of our city but with the East South Easterlys whipping up this afternoon certainly kept it quite pleasantly cool tho, Still Im dancing up a sweat for the rain to come in tomorrow with even a chance of a thunderstorm :)...... Currently its 23C with the humidity at 63%....... Below is your forecast for tomorrow. ____________________________________________________ This is the Official Forecast for Friday 15th of August 2014 for Gladstone to Cooktown and west to Mt Isa. _____________________________________________________ Wind Warnings for Friday 15 August Strong Wind Warning for the following areas: Townsville Coast and Mackay Coast. Weather Situation A strong high over the Great Australian Bight will gradually weaken as it moves slowly eastwards over southeastern Australia during the remainder of today and into the Tasman Sea on Friday and Saturday. An upper level low will intensify over northern South Australia during the remainder of today and Friday before moving east southeast over New South Wales during the weekend. A surface trough will deepen further over western Queensland this evening and Friday in response to the upper low. This trough and an associated rain band should then shift east over the state from Friday and is expected to clear off the southern coast by midday Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Showers increasing to rain areas over the southern interior southeast of about Longreach to Windorah with possible isolated thunderstorms. Showers also increasing about the east tropical coast from the late evening. Isolated to scattered showers over the remaining east coast, and also through the tropical and central interior where isolated thunderstorms are possible during the late afternoon and evening. Mostly fine over the Capricornia and southeast interior with just the chance of isolated showers. A cool and mostly sunny day in the far west with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds over the remaining interior, tending fresh and gusty southeasterly near the east coast. Friday 15 August Widespread showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms are expected to extend from the east tropical coast through the central interior and into the southern interior. Rain periods will intensify in these regions during the day with locally heavy falls developing, particularly with thunderstorms and about the eastern tropical coast. The rain band will being to slowly move to the east late in the day, extending the rain and isolated thunderstorms to the Capricornia, Central Highlands and eastern Maranoa by the end of the day. Isolated showers will persist about the southeast coast. The southeastern interior should remain fine and partly cloudy. The far west and northwest should remain fine and sunny. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds through the east, tending moderate west to southwesterly over the far west. Daytime temperatures will be well below the August average underneath the cloud band and also through the far west of the state in the southerly winds. Saturday 16 August The upper low is expected to shift east southeast into northern New South Wales while the surface trough should shift further east over Queensland, most likely extending from the central coast to the Maranoa by evening. The thundery rain band with possible heavy falls will therefore contract further southeast during the day, gradually extending from central districts and the southern interior into the southeastern corner of the state. Isolated to scattered showers will continue about the tropics in an onshore wind flow. A relatively moist airmass will extend into southwestern Queensland in the wake of the trough generating isolated showers. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected in the northwest. Daytime temperatures will remain below average over much of the state due to cloud cover or southerly winds. Sunday 17 August The upper low is expected to move further east southeast over New South Wales while the surface trough will contract east off the southern Queensland coast during the afternoon. The rain band with possible locally heavy falls will shift southeast through the Capricornia and southeast districts, most likely contracting off the southern coast during the morning, with a dry, gusty westerly change then clearing any remaining shower activity late in the day. Some low cloud will persist through the southern interior with possible isolated showers. A new high will move east over South Australia, extending a weak ridge and an onshore wind flow into the eastern tropics north of Townsville with isolated to scattered showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Monday 18 August The upper low is expected to move into the eastern Tasman Sea during the day. The surface trough will be located off the east coast, with a cooler southwesterly airmass extending across most of the state. Isolated showers are expected in the southwesterly flow through the southeastern interior, particularly about the southern border, with temperatures well below the August average over most of the state. Showers are possible about the northeastern peninsula coast in a weak onshore flow. Fine and sunny conditions are expected over the remainder. _____________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Cloudy.
