Good Enough is a grave danger. Grave, because its where things go to die. Danger, because its a very real threat. Good Enough is where hopes, dreams, horizons, and possibilities give way to standard issue government attire. Stand in line and receive your stamp of approval; you passed, you arent a failure. This line is costly. It is short term acceptance, long term defeat. You will never achieve success in this line. You will never achieve fullness. Greatness is you at your fullest, it is becoming fully and uniquely you. The world tries to sell us identities off the rack, usually at the whims of this seasons apparel designers and singers / actresses, millionaires, and snake oil salesmen. And because we cant measure up to someone elses standard (never were meant to), too many decide they are in danger of being failures and so settle for mass conformity. No longer trying to be like the upper echelon, we settle for the lower rungs because at least we are on the ladder. But conformity doesnt bring happiness. And most importantly, it isnt fulfillment. But we dont know what else to ask for, look for, believe in, so we strive to be someone we arent but whom society at least deems worthy of copy, or we settle for being good enough, fitting into the herd. Then there is the trouble of trying to be better than Good Enough. It comes with its own set of hazards besides failure, hazards that cause most of us to turn back right away. It hurts to break out of things, to grow and push against the standard or grain. It is lonely for a while. There are fears that have teeth like lions, the fear of being different, of what others will think, and of the unknown. There will be no answer to the question, how will it all turn out? But of course all answers of this sort are illusion anyway, but we sure do enjoy clinging to these and to have not even that... But for each of us it is a unique path, so there is no certainty, it is unchartered, unknown, un-plotted, and unmapped. There will be signs along the way warning of dragons, pay them no heed, they were left there by those who were afraid to go. Pursuit is uncomfortable at best; it is frustrating, and an embarrassing and painful process of getting it wrong until you get it right. But it is worth the effort, worth the heartache, worth the frustration and embarrassment. It is worth every step of the journey to get there. It is worth it because once youre there, youre somewhere. The sea there is blue, not beige, and the path to get there is beautiful though not straight and everything you though was trial along the way you will find is blessing on the other side. So dont give up and dont settle for good enough. Dont seek someone elses choices or approval or measure yourself by anyone elses standard. Set your eyes on what you want and what you want to become, and follow your path step after step, where there isnt a way you will make one, and dont worry about set backs for they will come, just keep going forward and ignore the signs, the world is round, not flat. And remember in your heart that you already are everything you hope to be, it is all within, and soon you will see.
