Good Evening Plaza Facebook Pals and its roll of the drums...answer time!..... The reason we were showing you an image of our Conn 650 Organ which has been kindly loaned to us for next 3 months is that we decided whilst the seats were being removed during our auditorium restoration to jump in and organise for a full clean and restoration of our magnificent Compton Organ which is in the process of being dismantled by Dave Ginder, Martin Denny and the team from Jardine Organs who have been trading since 1890 and actually started their business close to us here in the fine borough of Stockport. Our Mighty Compton Organ is one of only a handful of Cinema Organs still in situe in their original location and was installed at The Plaza just prior to opening in 1932. Our Compton was designed by Norman Cocker who was the organist in Manchester Cathedral and is the earliest Compton organ with illuminated surround referred to as The Glaze Sunburst of which only 7 were ever made. Every pipe in our pipe chest is being removed and taken to Jardines workshop which is now based in Old Trafford, where it will be assessed and any pipework that is damaged will be sent to specialist Shires in Leeds to be restored. The restaortion of our Compton Organ will take 3 months during which we shall use our Conn 650 Organ in its place and a huge thank you as always for your support for our fundraising and maintenance and please give generously to our ongoing aims to restore our magnificent Art Deco gem to her original 1932 condition for future generations to enjoy...
