Good Evening, everyone! Hopefully it has been a good Monday for you. At rounds this morning, it was discussed that Estelle had a fairly uneventful night. She did maintain a heart rate in the 170s-180s, which is still a bit elevated. She received two saline boluses in the course of the day yesterday. Her oxygen level has been within normal levels. She weighs 3.27kg (7lb, 3.35oz). So she is close to her birth weight of 7lb, 2oz. At one point, she was 8lb, 8oz from all of the fluid retention. Her Finnegan’s scores for tremors and modeling were both in the three to four range overnight. She remains on methadone. She has been given some extra calories because she has been putting out more than she is taking in. They’re changing Estelle’s formula to the formula she’ll use once she’s home. They did up her O2 from 21% to 25% around midnight. When I held her this morning, they completely removed the nasal cannula… so she was breathing regular ‘outside’ air on her own! She is tachycardic (has elevated heart rate) for a reason. They are trying to figure out if it’s related to sedation, pain, a residual effect of the hydrocortisone, or something else. Finally, she has had good urine output and she will need a repeat a renal ultrasound in two weeks. In past posts, it was mentioned that Estelle would be having a head ultrasound on 7/16/14. Well, it turns out that they did it this morning. The neurologist stopped by her room afterward to let me know that the head ultrasound didn’t show signs of abnormality and that the ventricles of the brain had remained essentially unchanged. There had been some signs of bleeding in the brain on the head MRI, but these problems are expected to resolve themselves over time. Hopefully, there will be no long-lasting effects! Kara Agrestis sweet friend, Erin Steiner, visited today and brought beautiful baskets for me and Jasmine. They were put together last evening by her and her girlfriends. What a thoughtful outpouring of kindness from someone who didn’t even know me before she brought bagels and coffee last week! It’s just so sweet and it would make my wife proud! She would love the creativity. Also, this morning, I was able to bottle feed Estelle for the first time! Wow! I know it’s going to take a bit of practice, but it was pretty amazing to give her first bottle to her. She drank 25ccs on her own and the nurse administered the other 40ccs by the feeding tube that goes down her nose to her stomach. Soooo… she basically ate like a champ (especially for her first bottle feed)! My dad and my brother, Ron, are back in Pittsburgh since my dad has his neck surgery tomorrow. They were able to hold Estelle before dinner. Awww - what a sweet sight! One more note - I got to witness Estelle projectile vomiting today. Its gross I know. I must say - I better get ready! ;) Have a wonderful night!
