Good Friday morning! Today should be mainly dry and a bit milder - TopicsExpress

Good Friday morning! Today should be mainly dry and a bit milder with highs ranging from 35 to 50 across Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Temperatures should slowly fall this evening into the upper 20s-lower 30s before our next system arrives late tonight into early Saturday morning. Precipitation should begin after midnight near the Ohio River and spread north throughout the morning. It could start as all snow in the Chicago area north of I-80, but should quickly mix with sleet, freezing rain, and rain. Elsewhere, precip should start right away as a wintry mix and quickly switch to freezing rain as warm air advection occurs. Exact surface temps will determine how long the freezing rain lasts and how much ice accumulation occurs. Right now, much of OH, IN, and IL have a good chance of seeing a minor ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch Saturday morning so stay tuned to later forecasts if you have travel plans Saturday. Expect a changeover to all rain after noon Saturday areawide as temps rise above freezing, with the possible exception of north central and NW Illinois which may hang on to freezing rain/drizzle all day depending on the storms track. Otherwise, moderate to locally heavy rainfall (1-2 inches) will be possible for Ohio and Indiana though flooding is not a huge concern since rivers are running rather low. There will be some weak instability present so a few embedded thunderstorms are also possible as well, some of which could produce wind gusts that could approach severe levels (40-60mph). Stay alert on Saturday for this possibility especially in central and southern Ohio and Indiana. Precip will mix with and change over to snow from NW to SE Saturday night into Sunday before ending on Sunday. Moisture should be pulling away Sunday but some lift will remain so scattered snow will be likely as temperature fall sharply behind the cold front. Attached are forecast maps from the NAM model for 1am, 4am, 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm, and 1am Saturday through early Sunday morning. Keep in mind that precip type details are subject to change. #ohwx #inwx #ilwx
