Good Friday morning, thankful for the sunrise today! Grateful for the opportunity for Debbie, Brandon and I to attend Celebrate All Kansas Educators yesterday in Eudora. It was probably one of the most inspiring days (professional development wise) that Ive been to in years, if not the most. We were challenged by the National Teacher of the year Jeff Charbonneau from Washington state to form a better answer to the question What do you do? and to remember that we need to help students OVERCOME OBSTACTLES to develop courage, , citizenship, legacy, to solve problems, become self-sufficient, and confident. To remember that ALL STUDENTS ARE YOURs and to KNOW NO ANSWERS, to LEAD and to HOPE....and you say youre JUST A TEACHER or PARA, or BUSDRIVER, or LUNCH LADY, or PRINCIPAL...we are building a future and our job is to take a child and help them become successful, whether he/she wants to be a doctor or mechanic or farmer or stay at home, we need to provide the skill sets they need to TO BE SUCCESSFUL I pray everyday that that is what Im doing in the education field....helping students be successful in whatever they choose to do. It was a challenge becasue sometimes we all, me included, get caught up in all the paperwork, the noise of education, the policy makers at local, state and nationals mandates, and we forget that we have the best job in the world, teaching students so they have the skills they need to be successful, who knows that ornery child that you gave up on may be your childs spouse someday, or your doctor, or your son or daughters teacher....Every child is the reason we get up in the morning and go to school, I need to remember that above all each and every day! Thank you Dyane Smokorowski, for your insistance that I needed to be there, even after missing 3 days for KSDE, it was well worth my time. Have a great Friday!
