Good Moring Everyone, So glad you enjoyed last week’s anniversary poem. Thank you all so much for the wonderful well wishes for our anniversary. With Labor Day so very close I had to look deep in my poetry collection to find one that wasn’t so depressing. Life is much like poetry it has many facets of highs and lows. This poem came to mind after being forced over 16 hours and missing a family gathering and it is for all my friends at RCA that made a horrible job a good place to work. God Bless all those that labor on this holiday that celebrates America’s working men and women. Blue-Collar Poet Walls of concrete, dingy windows and barb wire, Choking dust-filled air, filthy machines blazing fire, For the almighty dollar my life fades away. Never allowed to dance but to the band I must pay. Imprisoned by a “free system” but unable to enter in, All basic needs are provided even a daily dose of sin. Such is the life of a Blue-Collar Poet and laureate Yet when looking back I have no regrets. For an idle mind can excel on the mundane assembly-line. It is a valuable avenue of expression for heart-wrenching rhymes. For the Blue-Collar Poet’s heart pumps blood, sweat, and tears, Touching the pulse of America, revealing working class fears. Clinging to uncertain tomorrows as if they were secure. Wishing for better times but knowing prosperity has a greedy lure. Hoping for those “golden years” but realizing they won’t come. Working at a feverish pace until the body is worn-out and numb. So welcome to my world of grime and concrete walls, This is the world that I chose despite of its many pitfalls. Look through the dingy windows; the view is not the best. Where physical strength and nerves are put to the ultimate test. Breathe deeply the dust-filled air; please don’t think I’m a fool. My body is an industrial asset and my labor an occupational tool. I sincerely hope you enjoyed a glimpse of my blue-collar life Where you no longer have a family and the factory is your wife.
