Good Morning All ! This is your daily update here from Potters Resort as we continue to host the 2015 Just Retirement World Bowls Championship. After Buzby tripped and demolished the set here at Potters Resort in the Just Retirement World Indoor Singles - and we have two minutes to live on youtube - then the power goes 1 minute to go but we made it smack on time - and so did the two players for the morning singles - Welsh Legend John Price against the Northern Bolt!! Price came out on fire with all his old skills intact and roared into the first set only allowing Bolt to get two 2s in the 2nd and 3rd end - first set went to Price. In the second set it was Bolt who came out and did not allow Price any more than one end with a double and the second set went to Bolt and so into a tie break. Once again Price upped his match and brought out his triple A game and with precision bowls took the first two ends and match. In a tightly contested first match of the afternoon both players had to step up their games in an effort to outbowl each other. With Lifetime Achievement Award Winner David Gourlay up against Robert Weale the first set was shot for shot with Weale just pinching the first set by one shot. The second set saw a determined Gourlay going 4 down in the first two ends to Weale, then the next four ends Gourlay took two singles and then two doubles, Weale took the next two singles to bring it 6 across - Gourlay stole the final single to force a tie break. Into the tie break Gourlay took both ends in quick order to win the match in two sets to one with a scoreline of: 4,5 - 7,6 - 2,0 Second match of the afternoon at the Just Retirement World Open Singles here at Potters Resort and it was qualifier Ben Sherwen to face Mervyn King and it was Sherwen that struggled in the first set to come to grips with the carpet and going down 10,1 in the first set. Making a fight back in the second set it was 3,6 to Sherwen in the 6th end and it was looking rosier for Sherwen - into the seventh end though King upped his game and Sherwen dropped a count of 4 missing a bowl by mere fractions! The next two ends saw King take 2 singles to take the second set and match. So it King to go through 2 sets to 0 with a scoreline of 10,1 - 9,6. Last match of today at Potters Resort in the Just Retirement World Open Singles first round was a much talked about match between Paul Foster MBE & Marke Dawes. Both players acknowledged that this was going to be a tough match before it even started and in the first set it certainly lived up to expectations. Foster opened taking a double and Dawes responded taking the end with a double. Foster responded taking the next two ends with a single and a double and Dawes retaliated taking a triple to level at 5 all. End 6 Foster grabbed a single, end 7 Dawes swiped a double, Foster turned on the heat and took the next two ends with a single and a double to take the 1st set 9,7 Second set and Foster stepped out with power turned on to maximum and by end 3 had 6 shots in the bag, end 4 Dawes managed to grab a three but that was all that Foster would allow him and Foster took the second set and match by 2 sets to nil with a scoreline 9,7 - 12,3 - but do not let the score fool you, Foster was glad to win and Dawes certainly played excellent shots but some just did not quite run his way.
