Good Morning Everyone! We had a fabulous week at The Shack and I thought I would take some time with my Sunday morning coffee and tell you about them. I found out this week that Barry County Department of Human Services now includes us in their list of community referrals. Cool huh? Thursday, we got some great news from Therese Maupin-Moore. She is part of a Barry County Leadership Training Program that is learning about the programs in the area that enrich and enhance all of our lives. The group has adopted The Shack as their service to the community project. This week they will be coming to see The Shack and get a feel for what we do and our place in the community. They are excited to learn how they can be of assistance to us. They will be doing a major service project. Therese said their enthusiasm is high and I have the feeling this is going to be the beginning of a wonderful relationship with this group of folks dedicated to making a difference in their community. I can hardly wait to meet with them. This past week we began our Student Volunteer Program. We now have three student staffers. We hope they will be putting their mark on The Shack in their own unique ways. This will be an opportunity for students to begin to learn skill that will be valuable all through their lives, and especially when they fill out their first job applications...they will have some work EXPERIENCE! They will learn about team work, communication skills, organizational skills, responsibility customer service skills. Each of them will have a note book to journal their experiences at The Shack. This will be a way to become accustomed to the fact that every job they will have is going to have some amount of record keeping and documentation. We are open to suggestions and ideas and would love to hear from anyone that would like to help. Any student is welcome to come and see if they would like to participate. Friday Professional Photographer and Shack Volunteer Kara Nicholson did a photo shoot at The Shack to go along with the article we will turn into The Reminder. We had Middle School Student Volunteer Tiffany Dewire and High Schooler, Erika Calhoun, come in and help with the photo shoot. We had a lot of fun. We will let everyone know when we find out the date the article will run. Well, I have caught Yall up on the happenings at The Shack.
