Good Morning! I hope that you have had a good week. I can truthfully say that it has been an exciting week! I have always loved politics--I remember years ago my first foray into that field was when I campaigned for William Winter against John Bell Williams in the 60s---I was so disappointed when Winters lost,that I just never got involved again--of course I always vote even if by absentee now. I sincerely hope that this election will have good results because it is my belief that our country is in a decline. I hope that our people will pull together and seek unity to pull our country up.Thats what my little devotion is about this morning---Promoting Unity---The Lord hates----one who sows discord among the brethren.--Proverbs 6:16-19. The language of Proverbs 6 is strong. In the citing of seven things the Lord hates, sowing discord among the brethren makes the list. The reason for naming this sin is that it spoils the unity that Christ desires for his followers.(I have actually seen people leave the church because everyone did not vote like that person thought that the should)--Those who sow discord may not initially set out to create divisions, they may be preoccupied instead with their personal needs or the interests of a group they belong to.(James 4:1-10.)Think about how Lots herdsmen argued with those of Abraham.(Gen. 13: 1-18) or how Christs disciples argued about personal preemimence Luke 9:46) and divisive groups in the church at Corinth elevated party factions above the unity of the Spirit(1st Cor. 3 1-7) So what is the best way to promote unity? It begins with the transformation of the heart. When We adopt the mind of Christ, We develop an attitude of humility and we focus on service to others (Phil 2:5-11) Only in him can we access the power to look out for our own interest , but also for the interest of others. With growing bonds of love among us, We find discord replaced with joy and unity. (Ps. 133- 1.Fight for what you believe in but do it as Jesus would have you do---with joy and unity.------I hope that you all have a blessed week ahead---Praise the Lord that I am feeling better.
