“Good Morning Muskoka - Don MacKay with your Moose Outdoor Recreation Report for Saturday August 31st – sad in some ways as this is Labour Day weekend. But it is a great day out there – the radar shows nothing but clear weather so no rain 0% - zip – nada – and there is nothing better than a round of golf on a day like this. I am watching the sun rise and the cloud cover start to clear – it will be gone by 1030ish – I am here live at Muskoka Highlands Golf Course where you can play all day once you have paid your greens fee. The golf course is in fantastic shape – you continually tell us that we have some of the best greens in Muskoka. The recent rains have brought back the softer fairways and made the greens just a bit softer. So your golf darts will stay on target when you get them there. The men’s night players were unanimous in telling us that the course could not be in better condition. That does not mean we will pull back – just that we will continue to surprise you with our greens, tees and fairways. This morning we have our weekly free junior golf clinics from 10 til 11. As a natural followup to this, every day after 6 PM – you can play 9 holes for a dollar a hole for you and your junior- now that’s just about free!! And try the purple tees – you will have even more fun!! Our footgolf program got a real boost with a call from the Toronto Star and a followup article on Thursday. It will catch on in time and it will become a great bridge between 2 wonderful sports – soccer and golf. This is the beginning of the Fall Golf season in Muskoka. Soon we will be surrounded by the changing colours of the forests that cover the edges of the bowl around us. The good news is that you will never lose a ball in leaves here – the 17 trees are strategically located so their leaves fall away from the fairway.
