Good Morning all :) :-D I am not even the simplest of student of astronomy and my knowledge is so miniscule on that subject, that it is equivalent of a days knowledge in a million years :) :-D Anyhow, Happy Perihelion all. Today is the day our mother Earth is at the shortest distance or closest to our shield, grip and guide, the Sun,around which we orbit :) It was estimated at 06:37 AM (IST),ie 20:07 PM(UST,specifically Boston,Massachusetts,02.01.2015) :) It is also worth noting that the Southern Hemisphere is more in synchronization with what is true, though I am too novice to actually say with confidence whether I am right or not. The Sun is closest to Earth, being closer, leads to comparatively longer days and shorter nights as well as higher temperatures. It is Summer in the extreme South(South Pole) and relatively summer closer to the equator and at the sandwich b/w ETTC(23.5S) and TC(23.5S)TA(66.5S), where ETTC(23.5S)=Equator To Tropic of Capricorn at 23.5°S and TC(23.5S)TA(66.5S)=Tropic of Capricorn at 23.5°S To Antarctic Circle at 66.5°S. :) Also, considering the variations of 153.6 million km to 146.4 million km. Let £=153.6 million km and $=146.4 million km. £/$=(153.6/146.4)=1.0506... Consider, day and night equal to 12 hours each. This is valid for this particular case, where £/$=1. For ratio of 1.0506, £=1.0506.. $or 2.0506 $=24. $=11.70 hours=11 hours 42 minutes. £=12.30 hours =12 hours 18 minutes. This is the approximate longest day/night to shortest day/night variation at the equator. At greater latitudes,we consider Angles and distance variations in some sort I think. Anyhow, have a brilliant day :) :-D
