Good Morning everyone and Happy Halloween! It is so interesting to me what this day has become as well as many of our holidays once based around harmonious living with our earth, our spirits and our creator! Halloween or Samhain, and El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead on Nov. 1st) as it is in many cultures of Spanish descent, was originally placed and celebrated as a way to honor the harvest, the earth, the sun, the moon, life and death itself. Many cultures used to gather traditionally with offerings of food for the ancestors and would celebrate abundance while honouring their loved ones in the world of spirit. Somehow, like so many other originally pagan celebratory dates, Halloween has lost its magic and turned into another corporate sales tactic. Dont get me wrong, I think getting to dress up in crazy costumes, getting together and celebrating just because its Halloween, and giving free treats is still a kind of magic. Personally, I just feel it is necessary to remember our roots, in all situations of usurped holiday consumerism and remember the true importance of these days and their placements within our calendars and seasons. Take sometime to connect with Spirit on this day, especially since the magic of this day has been in place since the beginnings of our existences here on this planet. The timing and intention behind the power of Halloween does make it much simpler to commune with spirit, hence the emphasis on death at this time. Find a way to bring back some true magic into your Halloween or tomorrow on the Day of The Dead, send a message out to your ancestors, leave an offering, dance within the trees and sing with joy in your heart releasing fear of all things, even death! Also, I dont want to lead you astray this day has always been a day of celebration so remember to let loose and have some FUN!
